Subcommittee hearing scheduled for Duffy red-light camera legislation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                   February 25, 2010

Springfield, Illinois— A Senate hearing regarding the repeal of all red-light cameras in Illinois will be held in Springfield Tuesday, March 2. Sponsor of the legislation, Senate Bill 2466, State Senator Dan Duffy (R-Barrington) has been aggressively promoting the repeal of red-light cameras in Illinois.

The Senate Transportation Committee is meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 2nd at the Statehouse in Springfield, and the subcommittee hearing will be held as soon as the regular committee is over. It could start as early as 6:30 p.m.

“Now is the time to speak up and speak out about red-light cameras,” said Senator Duffy. “This is an open, public debate that will set future guidelines for all red-light cameras in Illinois.”

Senate Bill 2466 seeks to repeal all existing red light camera legislation, except for those cameras located in construction zones and at railroad crossings.  Currently, red light cameras are notorious for ticketing drivers making legal right hand turns at red lights. Violations are usually one hundred dollars; with a large portion of the money going to the private companies that install, maintain and regulate the cameras.
