Senate, Duffy vote unanimously to pass capital bill in time for construction season

26th District to receive $18.1 million

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                        April 2, 2009

Springfield, Illinois –Thursday afternoon State Senator Dan Duffy (R-Lake Barrington) voted for the unanimous passage of House Bills 210 and 289, which together create and finance a statewide road, bridge and mass transportation capital improvement program.

“I’m very pleased the Senate lawmakers came together to approve these desperately needed bills,” said Senator Duffy. “My district, much like the rest of the state, will benefit from the plan, which will create jobs and provide much-needed repairs to our roads and highways.”

Senator Duffy explained that his district will be receiving $18.1 million from both federal stimulus funds and state transportation dollars.  He stressed the importance of passing this quickly so the state can take advantage of the construction season fast approaching. He anticipates the House will consider and approve the legislation, so the bills can be sent to Gov. Pat Quinn for consideration, and hopefully, approval.

“I’ve long been committed to bringing jobs back to Illinois and putting people to work, this capital plan will put people to work almost immediately,” Duffy said noting that federal road projects are shovel-ready.

According to Senator Duffy, passing this legislation is only the first step in putting Illinois citizens back to work.

“While this does not solve Illinois’ budget problems, it sheds a light on what the General Assembly can accomplish when partisan politics aside,” said Senator Duffy. “I have faith that we will eventually see a positive resolution to our budget deficit, if we continue to work together and stimulate our economy by seeking ways to increase employment in Illinois.”
