State Sen. Dan Duffy (R-Lake Barrington) is teaming with the Illinois Attorney General’s office to host a financial safety seminar with a focus on scam and fraud prevention on September 8 in Crystal Lake.

What: Sen. Duffy’s Scam and Fraud Prevention Program
When: Wednesday September 8, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Where: Nunda Township Hall, located at 3510 Bay Road, Crystal Lake, IL 60073

Duffy will sponsor the event, which will feature representatives from the Attorney General’s office, who will discuss consumer fraud prevention. Experts will be able to provide information on the "Do Not Call" Registry, how to protect yourself from identity theft, and understanding telecommunication scams.

Other topics include health care fraud, debt settlement and consolidation traps, check-cashing scams, fraudulent businesses and consumer rights under the new federal credit card law.
