Illinois- Seniors with a knack for spelling have an
opportunity to test their skills during a qualifying round of the 2010 Illinois
State Senior Spelling Bee in
Crystal
Lake, sponsored by State Senator Dan Duffy (R-Lake
Barrington).
The spelling bee
is open to anyone age 50 and older. Seniors willing to participate can
pre-register by calling 847-277-7100 to obtain registration materials, or they
can register at the event.
Registration is free,
and seniors are encouraged to study by using a dictionary or by going to www.myspellit.com
on the Internet.
Qualifying rounds
for the State Senior Spelling Bee are held throughout the State of
Illinois, with the
finals occurring during the Illinois State Fair on Monday, August 16, 2010.

Senator Duffy to hold informational seminar for diabetics in Wauconda
Barrington,
Illinois—Local diabetics will have an opportunity to
attend an informational seminar regarding the diabetic shoe benefit program,
sponsored by State Senator Dan Duffy (R-Lake Barrington) and the
WaucondaTownship.
The program is a
partnership between Medicare and the American Diabetes Association and provides
protective, therapeutic footwear at no cost for individuals living with
diabetes.
Diabetics, who
are covered by Medicare, are entitled to one pair of shoes per year, plus three
pairs of insoles. The individually fitted shoes feature extra-depth, molded
insoles and protected toes, designed exclusively for comfort and support.
In order to qualify for the program, you must be under a comprehensive
plan of care for diabetes with a physician and have a signed certification
statement.
